The Ultimate IVF Guide cover

It feels like everyone else got a manual. You got a prescription, a leaflet and a "we'll call you."

If this is you, keep reading

You're not behind. You were just never told what was coming.

IVF is a lot of medical information thrown at you while you're already overwhelmed, scared, and trying to hold it together. No wonder it feels like you missed a meeting everyone else went to.

You nod along in appointments, then sit in the car park Googling every word the consultant just said.

It's 1am and you're three forums deep, reading strangers' stories and somehow feeling more panicked, not less.

The drugs arrived in a giant box and nobody really explained what each one does or why it matters.

You only think of the questions you should have asked on the drive home, every time.

Each new stage hits like a surprise exam you didn't get to revise for, and you're tired of feeling blindsided.

You wish someone had just handed you the whole picture at the start, in plain English, with nothing sugar-coated.

No panic, no false hope

Honest, accurate, and written for UK clinics.

This isn't a US blog reposted with the spellings changed. It's written around how IVF actually works here, the protocols, the drugs, the language your clinic uses, the bits the NHS leaflet skims over.

It explains the science properly, without dumbing it down and without trying to scare you. You'll understand what's happening to your body and why, so the next appointment feels like a conversation, not an ambush.

Not medical advice, and never a replacement for your clinic. Just the context that helps you walk in informed and ask better questions.

Walk in knowing what's coming
so the next stage stops landing like a surprise you didn't get to revise for.
Ask the questions that matter
instead of remembering them in the car park, every single time.
Feel steadier, not more scared
with the honest context that calms the 1am spiral instead of feeding it.
What's inside

Every stage, explained before it happens to you.

Organised by where you are in the journey, so you can jump straight to the bit you need and ignore the rest until it's time.

01

IVF, finally in plain English

The basics plus a glossary that translates the jargon, so you stop nodding along to words you don't actually understand.

02

NHS vs private, and the real costs

The honest comparison, plus all the costs gathered in one place, so the money side stops blindsiding you halfway through.

03

Your protocol, decoded

Long, short, antagonist, mild, DuoStim, priming, plus frozen and FET. What yours means and why your clinic chose it.

04

The drugs, scans and numbers

What each one is for and what the numbers on the screen actually mean, so you can read your own results without spiralling.

05

Egg collection, grading and transfers

What happens on each day, how embryos are graded, and what to expect so it stops feeling like a surprise exam.

06

Success rates and the honest odds

The real numbers, explained without false hope or scare tactics, so you can make decisions with your eyes open.

07

The two-week wait and test day

The hardest fortnight and the day at the end of it, both outcomes covered, so you're never facing it cold.

08

When it doesn't work, and what's next

The heavy "what if" most guides skip. Sitting with the grief, asking the right questions, and deciding where you go from here.

09

The male side and add-ons worth it

What the male side of things involves and which optional add-ons are actually worth your money, so you don't pay for noise.

10

Your partner, and actual scripts

How they can genuinely help, with scripts you can hand them, so you stop being the only one carrying it.

11

Looking after yourself, and work

Boundaries, protecting your energy, and the work and HR scripts for when you need time without spelling everything out.

12

The questions to ask any clinic

The exact questions to take into any appointment, so you walk in able to push for the answers you deserve.

A note from Frankie

I wrote the guide I needed and never got. The one that would have stopped me spiralling when I heard how many eggs were collected on our first round of IVF, or stopped me breaking my heart crying to my husband when I found out the hard way that being young and healthy doesn't mean IVF works first time.

Yes, this is our story, but for thousands of others out there, it's their story too. I'm not going to tell you it'll all be fine, because I can't promise that and you'd stop trusting me the second I did. But I can try to make sure you're never blindsided again. That you walk into every appointment knowing why you're there and what to ask, feeling less scared and anxious and more confident that you can navigate this with a bit more control.

The thoughts you're probably having

Let's deal with the but… head on.

"£44.99 is a lot of money right now."

I hear you, IVF drains you financially as well as everything else. But you're already spending thousands on the cycle itself. This is the one part that makes the rest of it feel less terrifying, for less than the cost of a single private prescription. It's the difference between going through IVF informed and going through it blind.

"I can just Google all of this for free."

You can, and you have been, at 1am, and it's left you more frightened than informed. Google gives you ten conflicting answers and a worst-case story from a forum. This gives you one honest, ordered, UK-specific source so you stop drowning in tabs and actually understand what's happening.

"I'm only at the very start, this is too much."

Being at the start is exactly when this helps most. It's organised by stage, so you only read the bit you're in right now and leave the rest until you need it. Knowing what's ahead is what stops every stage feeling like a fresh ambush.

"I don't have the headspace to read a whole guide."

Then don't. You're not meant to read it cover to cover. You read only the bit that matches where you are this week, get what you need, and close it again. It's a reference you reach for when a stage hits, not homework you have to keep up with.

Who's behind this

Written by someone who's actually been there.

Hi, I'm Frankie. I'm not a doctor or a therapist, and I won't pretend to be either. What I have is seventeen years of infertility living rent free in my head, and a stubborn refusal to let all of it be for nothing. One ectopic, two miscarriages, a chemical pregnancy, multiple rounds of IVF, and more WTF moments than I can count. My husband has been in it with me the whole way. WTF Fertility is the support I wish we'd had, built from lived experience, not a pretty brochure.
